Level 2 Background Check

Level 2 background screening in Palm Beach County.

The fingerprint-based screening Florida statute requires for positions of trust. Captured and submitted the same day, by appointment.

Overview

Level 2 Background Check.

Level 2 is a legal standard, not a product. Florida statute defines it as fingerprint-based screening covering state criminal history through FDLE and national criminal history through the FBI, and it applies to anyone in a position of special trust — roles involving children, the elderly, or people with disabilities. When an employer or board says “you need Level 2,” they are pointing at that statutory definition.

Because it's a standard rather than a single process, Level 2 screening runs through whichever agency governs your role. Healthcare employment goes through AHCA. Childcare and foster care go through DCF. Professional licences go through DBPR or the Department of Health. Schools go through the district. All of them are Level 2 — they just route to different places, and the routing is what we verify before capturing anything.

Who Needs It

Who this is for.

Positions Of Trust

Roles working with children, the elderly, or people with disabilities carry a statutory screening requirement.

Healthcare Employment

Licensed facilities screen clinical and support staff to the Level 2 standard before placement.

Childcare & Foster Care

Daycare staff, foster parents, and adoptive households are screened under the same standard.

Professional Licensing

Many Florida boards require Level 2 screening before issuing or renewing a licence.

Volunteers

Adults volunteering unsupervised with vulnerable groups are frequently screened to the Level 2 standard.

Contractors & Vendors

Vendors with site access at schools, facilities, and agencies are screened before badging.

Requirements

Level 1 or Level 2 — and where AHCA fits.

Level 1 is a name-based database search using your name and date of birth. It's quick, it's cheap, and for most Florida licensing and employment purposes it is not what's being asked for. Level 2 is fingerprint-based and reaches both state and national records. A Level 1 result will not close out a Level 2 requirement, no matter how recently it was run, because the two are not the same search.

It's also worth understanding that AHCA screening is one type of Florida Level 2 screening, not a different thing. If you work in licensed healthcare, your Level 2 runs through the Agency for Health Care Administration and the result is deposited in the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. Same statutory standard, specific agency route. The same is true of DCF, APD, and Department of Health screening — all Level 2, each with its own ORI.

Avoid This

Four ways this goes wrong.

Accepting A Level 1 Result

Employers occasionally run a name search and assume it satisfies a statutory Level 2 requirement. It doesn't.

Guessing The Agency Route

Level 2 runs through different agencies depending on your role, and each has its own ORI.

Assuming It Transfers

A Level 2 for one purpose does not automatically satisfy another unless the agencies share a repository.

Waiting Until The Start Date

Processing takes a few business days. Screening the week you start puts the date at risk.

How It Works

Four steps. One visit.

01

Tell Us The Role

Which agency or board requires the screening decides the ORI. We confirm it before anything is captured.

02

Ten Minutes

Rolled and flat impressions on a certified scanner, plus a photograph where the route requires one.

03

Same-Day Submission

Sent to FDLE electronically, which forwards the national portion to the FBI.

04

Results To Agency

Returned to the requesting agency, or deposited in the Clearinghouse where that applies.

Pricing

Flat pricing.

One flat fee, all-in — the state fee, the federal fee, and the AHCA retention fee are already inside it. Nothing is added at your appointment, and we don't charge a separate rolling fee on top.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is AHCA screening the same as Level 2?

AHCA screening is one type of Florida Level 2 screening — same statutory standard, routed through the Agency for Health Care Administration and deposited in the Clearinghouse. If you work in licensed healthcare, that's your route. If you don't, your Level 2 goes through a different agency.

Which one does my Palm Beach County employer mean?

If the form says “Level 2,” “fingerprint-based,” or cites a statute, it means fingerprint screening. Read us the wording over the phone and we'll tell you which agency route applies before you book.

Does Level 2 include a national check?

Yes. Level 2 covers Florida records through FDLE and national records through the FBI. Level 1 is a Florida name-based search only.

Can I upgrade a Level 1 to a Level 2?

No. They're different processes — one is a database search, the other a fingerprint submission. A Level 2 requires being fingerprinted.

Does a record automatically disqualify me?

Not automatically. Agencies weigh the nature, timing, and relevance of an offence, and Florida provides a formal exemption process in many cases. That's a legal question rather than a fingerprinting one, and we don't advise on it.

How long is a Level 2 result valid?

It depends on the agency. Clearinghouse results carry a retention period while your status is kept current; other routes want a result issued within the past six to twelve months. Check the requirement rather than assuming.

Do volunteers need Level 2?

Frequently yes, where they work unsupervised with children, the elderly, or people with disabilities. Qualified organisations often screen volunteers through the VECHS programme, which is its own route.

How soon can Palm Beach County residents be screened?

Usually the same or next business day. Call (561) 475-4757 or send the request form and we'll confirm a slot and verify the ORI on the callback.
